Lyrics
Little Silver Cross
(Steve Giberson copyright 2007)
Verse 1:
She hardly heard a word the man had to say
When he spoke about honor, it all sounded so cliché
He handed her a flag, folded with such care
She just kept thinking about how she wished her boy was there
The eulogy lamented about how he’d done his best
Then the rifles fired and bagpipes faded as we laid him to rest
The final words, “Maam I’m sorry for your loss”
Couldn’t ease the burden of that Little Silver Cross
Chorus:
It’s just a broach, hanging by a simple chain
On the back’s engraved a broken-hearted mother’s name
(wife’s)
A simple testimony of such great cost
She to frail to bear the weight of that Little Silver Cross
(young)
Verse 2:
Service done, the widow walks back into her life
The burden of her whole world gone, adding to her strife
Her shoulders are sunken beneath the heavy load
And she wonders if she’ll make it on this lonely road
Into the fountain of by-gone days, her penny-thoughts she’ll toss
Searching for the strength to carry this Little Silver Cross
Bridge/Outro:
Lord, from Calvary, I pray you understand my loss”
Give me the strength to bear the weight of this Little Silver Cross
