THE INSPIRING JOURNEY OF STEVE GIBERSON

From the Battlefield to the Studio

Ever wondered what it's like to trade ‘on the battlefield’ for ‘the stage’?

Steve Giberson, a veteran of both the Canadian Armed Forces and Fire Service, has done just that, transforming his lived experiences into poignant and heartfelt music.

Steve’s musical journey began in his teenage years behind a drum kit, but it wasn’t until his military deployments in remote corners of the globe that he discovered the therapeutic power of songwriting and the guitar. Music became his anchor, allowing him to process the hardships and stories he witnessed along the way.

When the 2020 pandemic brought the world to a standstill, Steve seized the moment to refine his craft. His dedication paid off in 2023 when he travelled to Nashville for the renowned Rodney Crowell event, “It Starts With a Song.” There, his songwriting talents earned critical acclaim from some of the industry’s most respected figures.

That same year, Steve co-wrote and independently released “Still Over There” with Canadian Country artist Julian Austin, a moving anthem that captured the shared experiences of service members and their families.

In 2024, Steve took his artistry to new heights with the release of his independent debut album, Bar and a Half. This collection of raw, heartfelt tracks harkens back to the golden age of country storytelling, drawing inspiration from legendslike Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and Bruce Springsteen. With influences that also include George Jones, Jason McCoy, and Paul Brandt, Steve’s music offers a blend of classic country charm and contemporary depth.

The album has received glowing reviews from Canadian Beats, solidifying Steve’s place in the music world. Taking his songs from the studio to the stage, he formed Retirement Plan, a band composed primarily of militaryand first responder veterans. Their debut performance at Kingston’s iconic country venue, The Buckle, was a powerful showcase of camaraderie and resilience, with every song connecting deeply with the audience.

In 2025, Steve entered into a new partnership with Radar Love Records based in Toronto, ON that evolved into a plan to release his second album on the RLR label.

During the month of May 2025, Steve G embarked on a unique adventure as the “on board artist” for VIA Rail, bringing his music and stories to audiences across Canada.

Retirement Plan continued to expand their presence and recorded a live album at CJAI Amherst Island Radio over the summer in 2025.

Returning to the Radar Love project, Steve G's first single from this collaboration “Fighting Off The Cold”, a song that highlights the struggles of homelessness, was released in Feb 2026 with a second single and title song for his second full album, called “Ordinary Man” released in May 2026.

2026 looks like a deeper relationship with Radar Love Records with a commitment to complete Steve's second studio album for release in Summer.
